ADULT CONTEMPORARY - NOVEMBER 2005
2003's Chikinki album Assassinator 13 revealed a band who were capable of melding everything that was great about Kraftwerk with a rock focus that owed almost nothing to the backwards-looking metal on display everywhere else. Like Kings of Leon mixed with a 2005 New Order, its freshness is still almost shocking and rewarding two years on. To ensure a good drip of material to their fans, the Bristol-based band have re-released their original album Experiment With Mother and a new album of b-sides and rarities via their website at chikinki.co.uk. Thank goodness they care, as the world needs more of this ambition. The UK should celebrate the pioneering spirit and art on these discs: there is incisive wit, remarkable musicianship and more. If Pink Floyd had kept up to date, they might have sounded something like this.
