MUSIC WEEK – JULY 2003

A great introduction to one of the UK’s most promising acts. Hate TV is a mix of spiky punk rock and elements of noodly electronica. Fortunately this isn’t another attempt to rekindle the eighties – Chikinki occupy a special place of their own.

NME – AUGUST 2003

‘Save me from myself’ yelp Chikinki – Bristolian purveyors of bug-eyed experimental pop that sounds like cannibal robots ripping bare the circuits of Kraftwerk’s ‘Pocket Calculator’. They are The Copper Temple Clause with ‘60’s kitsch twirly knobs and you are soon to be there humble subjects.

THE FACE – AUGUST 2003

With the combination of their incendiary sonic-assault shows, their professional keyboard genius and a singer who dares to be Mick Jagger, these Bristol boys could truly return the word ‘progressive’ for describing UK bands.

THE FLY – AUGUST 2003

Squelch-beat noise-niks Chikinki developed their mutant strain of rock n roll in a flat above a carpet shop in Bristol. The result suggests the band have been suffering from over exposure to synthetic fibres without adequate ventilation, as they sound like a porn obsessed Peter Gabriel with techo-fear. That’s a good thing.
